GENERAL INFORMATION

The foundation of our University dates back to 1958 when the branch of Moscow Institute of Electronic Machine Building was set up in Vladimir. In 1969 it was transformed into the Vladimir Polytechnical Institute. Due to further achievements in the development of material-technical resources, academic activities and research the University was given the status of a Classical University in 1996. In 2002 the University became the full member of Eurasian Association of Classical Universities.

Nowadays the Vladimir State University is the leading educational establishment, centre of science and culture of the Vladimir region taking an active part in the country’s innovation educational programme. Thousands of our graduates have become famous academic researchers, managers of large enterprises, scientific and educational institutions, leading statesmen. This is achieved due to the staff consisting of highly qualified faculty members with 30-40 years of experience of work at the University.

At present the main University’s goal is to be modern, dynamic institution providing the high level of academic, scientific and educational work.

UNIVERSITY STRUCTURE

Our Educational Establishment is a multi-profile classical university. Now it incorporates 2 branches in Murom and Gus-Khrustalniy, 10 Institutes.

More than 26 000 students study in 71 majors, 35 Bachelor Degree Programmes, 24 Master Degree Programmes and 61 Post-graduate Degree Courses.

ACADEMIC STAFF

Academic staff incorporates more than 1300 faculty, among them 170 Doctors of Sciences, Full Professors; 11 Honoured Science and Technology Workers of the Russian Federation, 50 Academicians and Corresponding Members of different academies of Sciences, more than 700 Candidates of Sciences, Associate Professors.

Training of highly qualified staff is carried out by Post- graduate and Doctorate Courses. At present there are 10 Dissertation Councils in 17 scientific majors.

INNOVATION DEVELOPMENT

Within the framework of the priority national project EDUCATION there were created the following scientific and education centres:

  • scientific centre of physics and chemical methods of nanomaterials investigation;
  • scientific centre of laser nanotechnologies;
  • laboratory of parallel / highly efficient calculations based on super computers;
  • education-production area for automatization of design-technological training machine-building products based on Information Support of life time products technologies;
  • technological production area for manufacturing carbon materials/nanotubes;
  • experimental production area for laser information technologies and production of semi-conducting laser rulers;
  • experimental range of bionanotechnologies, nano and ecology safety.

They are applied for:

  • microelectromechanical systems;
  • automated systems of micro and nanoindustry;
  • up-to-date technologies of water purification in industry and household using membrane components.

MATERIAL-TECHNICAL RESOURCES

University has got a diverse social infrastructure incorporating:

  • 11 academic buildings;
  • 3 sports buildings;
  • 13 halls of residence;
  • swimming pool;
  • out-of-town sports camp «Polytechnic»;
  • sanatorium-dispensary;
  • medical centre.

SOCIAL LIFE

Cultural, sports activities and backing students’ creative initiatives are realized in different areas. The cultural centre has been set up at the University. The most popular among students are cinema club «Polytechnic», theatre studio «Rhythm», musical ensemble «Jumbo Jazz».

Sport plays an important part in the social life of the University. Sports days are held yearly. The University has trained 7 Honoured Masters of Sport of international class, more than 100 Masters of Sport of the USSR and Russia, Europe, World and Olympic champions, thousands of highly-rated sportsmen and referees
